Life Update September 2016 A Better Night’s Sleep

I cannot believe how fast the month has flown by. In my head, I am a few weeks behind. The weather is changing. The leaves are starting to turn. It is my favorite time a year.

I have been MIA for most of the month. Due to a few things. I am thinking about the future and I am still recovering from surgery/broken toes. I have not been able to put on shoes, so when I go out, I end up in a lot of pain. I think by now the swelling should subside. It is better but still uncomfortable. This is putting me into a funk.

I need to make some changes in my life. I need a change in routine. My cats, for example, are not happy with change. Especially Simon. If lunch is not served at noon, all hell breaks out. He simply will not accept it. For me, I think  I have to change some things and start a new routine.

Sleep has been an issue for me. I have dealt with insomnia for the past few months. I usually do not have an issue falling asleep. Waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to go back to sleep is driving me crazy.  At first, I thought it was because of anxiety over the surgery. Even after I met the surgeon and felt comfortable with him, I was still nervous. Then I had the surgery but my insomnia continues.

There are things that I do that need to change. Here are the following things I need to change:

  • Stop eating and drinking before bed. Waking up to pee is something I can control.
  • Putting the cats upstairs in their “little apartment” will have to start-up again. They wake me up too much.
  • Put my cell phone away at night.  I cannot stop my brain from racing and feel the need to constantly look up things that can wait for morning.
  • Turn off the news. Going to sleep with bad news on my brain, especially “election fatigue” causing me to have anxiety.

On YouTube, so many of the “vloggers” like to post their routine. I tend to avoid those videos but I found one that I actually found helpful from Shannon Sullivan.

She has a lot of good tips. I have used some of them but have strayed.

I want to get back to some of these tips.

Early in the evening start drinking herbal tea again
Stretch exercises before bed
writing in my journal
Using my pillow spray
Take a magnesium supplement

I will update the next month.
